World WATER DAY: MARCH 22

March 22nd is World Water Day, a day we at H2O for Life celebrate all of the students and teachers who have joined us over the past ten years to help bring water to schools around the world.
550,000 U.S. students have participated in H2O for Life service learning projects over that time period. Those students have raised 3.2 million dollars which have been matched for a total impact of 6.4 million dollars to provide safe water and sanitation for nearly 300,000 students in the developing world.

OKLAHOMA CITY -
Some Oklahoma students are demanding change in the wake of the Florida school shooting.
They're planning to hold a protest at the state capitol next month.
They're calling it March for Our Lives Oklahoma.
"We are demanding common sense gun regulations," said student Doran Walters. "It's a real concern for kids these days, I mean, I'm not scared every time I walk through the door, but it's something that crosses my mind at least weekly."
The march is set for Saturday, March 24.
The March For Our Lives needs volunteers on March 24 to help run voter registration stands and clean up. Voter Registration will happen at the County Election Board and clean up will be both there and the Capitol. Sign up at Facebook https://m.facebook .com/groups/792324434311638

Casady Youth and Government attends State Conference
Adapted from http://ymcaokc.org/yag/yag-home, First Day photos and comments by Mrs. Bek-gram
The Y's Youth and Government™ program is a national program that involves thousands of teens nationwide in state-organized, model-government programs.
Students from every corner of the U.S. have the opportunity to immerse themselves in experiential civic engagement and practice democracy.
Teens from across every state meet in their local Youth and Government clubs and at statewide events throughout the year to discuss and debate issues that affect citizens of their state through proposed legislation, participation in mock trials, or journalistic reporting.

X2VOL recommendations for Spring Break Service Experiences
Guide to Volunteering Over Spring Break
Posted by x2VOL on Feb 28, 2018 9:39:35 AM
.png?width=618&name=Blog%20Headers%20(3).png)
Spring break is the perfect time of year to lay by the beach, go on a trip, hang out with friends or volunteer at your local nonprofit organization or help someone in need. The days you have off during spring break are a great time to get plugged in to the community, make a difference in someone else's life and knock out some of your service hours for the year,
There are a number of ways you can serve during spring break whether you are looking to work one day or multiple days in a row, the luxury of spring break is time.
1. Go on a short-term service trip. Find these through your school, church or local nonprofits. A number of organizations will travel to serve another city, state or country. Take advantage of the multiple days you are there and build connections and relationships with the people you are helping.
2. Find volunteer opportunities through x2VOL or organizations near you. Use the opportunities tab in your x2VOL account to search service projects in your community or call local nonprofit organizations and ask what service projects or volunteer opportunities they have available.
3. Create your own service project. Have something your passionate about or a cause close to your heart? Take the time over spring break to organize your own service project and impact the community using your passions and talents.
When you are finished with a service project, big or small, be sure to reflect on what you learned. Write about the impact you had on an organization or a group of people and note how they impacted you.
SEE Period Carnival
The Carnival is an annual fundraising event and the culminating activity for SEE periods. Casady MD students were reading buddies for the pre-K, first, and second grade Andrew Johnson classes this year. Students modeled good reading skills and played sight word games with the children at the elementary school. Casady students enjoy an English project to create a children's storybook with the five story elements: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Each story will also include a message such as perseverance, honesty, sharing, anti-bullying, etc. Storybooks will be donated to the classroom libraries at Andrew Johnson Elementary after evaluation by the seventh grade English teacher.
Picture of the event by Brannan Crossno at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/18SvhpNZGYwtEQ3TD2kowfDwgPox26lOK
A special thank you to everyone for your contributions to the Andrew Johnson fundraising carnival. The students engaged appropriately and did an excellent job organizing and running their respective booths.
Adults, everyone was positive and helpful at the carnival. Your efforts allowed everything to go smoothly. Thank you for generously giving of your time, energy, to a very worthwhile cause in our local community.
