Highlights from Peace Day 2014
Dear Casady and OKC Peace Team,

Peace Day 2014 was a huge success, thanks to all of you. We have now completed our work to measure the impact of the day, and with the support of McKinsey & Company, we are able to say that more than a billion people globally were exposed to the message of Peace Day, with 610 million people aware of the day! Our collective results also show that 10 million people behaved more peacefully as a consequence of Peace Day. This is a fantastic achievement, and shows how all your hard work really does impact vast numbers of people. Click here for the full summary.

Reaching great numbers of people with the message of Peace Day is what our work is all about; we know that if the message gets out and people celebrate the day, lives are changed. And we want 21 September this year to dwarf what was achieved in 2014; with your efforts, we know this is possible.

This year we will continue working across our coalitions, focusing on NGO engagement, combating domestic violence, connecting with faith communities, schools and universities, and collaborating with even more corporates to maximise the spread of the Peace Day message. We also have new rugby and running initiatives – Try for Peace and Run for Peace – to go alongside our existing dance, music and football initiatives.

This is a great time to start thinking about what you might want to do for Peace Day this year, and how best to involve your communities. Please email us to share your ideas!

As ever our campaign is global, but the focus on the Great Lakes region of Africa (GLR) continues, thanks to the help of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. And to really build momentum in the region we will be holding a series of forums during the next few months: in Nairobi, Kigali, Goma, Bujumbura, Kampala and Kinshasa. We’re so excited about meeting current and prospective partners at these events, and putting our heads together to see how Peace Day this year in the GLR can be a moment of real unity for the entire region. To find out more, just send us an email.

I can’t wait for the campaigning to really begin, and with so much going on, I know that this year is going to surpass even the wonderful successes of 2014.

Here’s to a great 2015!

In peace,

Jeremy Gilley
