Casady students and community partners will volunteer at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma on January 19, from 9:00 - 4:00. The Casady Service-Learning Program continues to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and servant leaders from Casady and Heritage Hall (Rivals on the field, partners in service) who have passed and inspired us with their example: Mr. Arnel Gil, Dr. Robert Woolsey, Dr. Robbie Johnson, Mrs. Jeannie Rainbolt, Mr. Anthony Shadid, and Mr. Colby Sartin.
2014: A Day at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. Organized by a collaboration between the Casady Service-Learning Director , the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma Volunteer Coordinator and the Respect Diversity Foundation Bureau of Speakers. Packing and sorting food, participation in Food Simulation and historical tour of the facility. YAC Senior chairs leading recruitment of volunteer efforts. Collaboration with Casady MD, Religious Education Classes and LD Director. Invited to participate: YLOKC, Boys and Girls Club, Interfaith Alliance of Oklahoma, Mercy School Institute. and Heritage Hall High School. 2013: Rebuilding Together: Preparing a home for AmeriCorps painting team; sorting household items, cleaning up exterior. 54 volunteers from Casady, Mercy School, Casady YAC and Youth Lead OKC. Rebuilding Together Youth Board, Casady Cyclone, Project Chair. Casady Service-Learning MLK Day honored the memory of Dr. Robbie Johnson, Mrs. Jeannine Rainbolt, Dr. Robert Woolsey and Mr. Anthony Shadid.
2012: 100 Care Packages sent to Oklahoma soldiers in Afghanistan purchased with proceeds from sale of scarves knitted by Casady Cyclones students and faculty. YAC senior Chair Project. Casady Service-Learning MLK Day honored the memory of Dr. Robbie Johnson and Mrs. Jeannie Rainbolt.
2011: Framing a Habitat Home that STUCO and YAC helped build. STUCO board leadership in fundraising, sport teams volunteered to frame the house. Casady Service-Learning MLK Day honored the memory of Dr. Robbie Johnson and Mrs. Jeannie Rainbolt.
2010: Framing a Habitat Home, Sports teams and coaches required to serve on a day off from school. YAC MLK Day Project chair led by basketball team member. 84 volunteers. YAC provided Green Team Training at Casady School. First year Casady YAC included other divisions on MLK Day activities. Reading for the Blind and Snacks for Boys and Girls Club were opportunities provided on campus for MD and LD students. YAC senior, junior and sophomore chairs facilitated projects. 2009: Basketball team refurbished a home for Rebuilding Together. YAC senior chair organized, connected, and led the effort. Project was a result of a Skills for Action, Independent Study Course requirement to provide a service project on MLK Day. YAC senior chair was the manager of the basketball team. 2007: 1,000 grant from the Points of Light Foundation sponsored a service fair at the North Side YMCA on MLK Day. The opportunity was cancelled due to inclement weather and the fair was taken to Boys and Girls Club the week after SPC in February. The Casady Service-Learning Program MLK Day honored the memory of Dr. Robbie Johnson.
